The School of Marxism Studies of Renmin University of China was founded in 1996, formed by the merger of the Institute of Marxist-Leninist Development History Research Department founded in 1964, and the Institute of Marxist Theory Education founded in 1986. It is one of the earliest established Schools of Marxism Studies in China, and it is known for its unique history, strong academic foundation, and first-class teaching and research achievements. It is acclaimed as the "highland of Marxist theory teaching and research" and the "mother machine and training base" for cultivating high-end talents in Marxist theory.

The School of Marxism Studies has built the most complete professional, disciplinary cultivating level system of Marxist theory and related disciplines in China. At present, the School of Marxism Studies has 1 undergraduate major and 10 second-level disciplines of Master's and PhD programs. Among them, the first-level discipline of Marxism Theory is the only State-level key first-level discipline among the Marxist theory disciplines of Chinese general universities, and the undergraduate major of Marxist Theory is a construction site for national first-class undergraduate majors.

The School of Marxism Studies has a faculty with high moral integrity, reasonable structure and outstanding teaching and research capabilitiesWe have 54 full-time teachers, including 26 professors. Among them, there are 5 State Council's Special Government Allowance Obtained Experts, 8 distinguished professors and young professors of "the Yangtze River Scholars" set up by the Ministry of Education, 8 selected candidates for the National High-Level Personnel of Special Support Program, 3 selected into the “Four Categories of Talents” in the national propaganda and cultural system, 18 chief experts and main members of the "Central Research and Construction Project of Marxist Theory", 8 members of the Teaching Guidance Committee of the Ministry of Education, 6 national outstanding teachers, "most beautiful teachers" and Beijing master teachers, 5 selected into the ”“Four Categories of Talents” of Beijing, 4 talents in the "Hundred Talents Project" of Beijing, as well as 9 special grade professors and teachers of ideological and political courses of Beijing.

The School of Marxism adheres to the principle of "Thoroughly studying the original works of Marxism, bravely standing at the forefront and focusing on researching the topics of time", vigorously promoting the teaching, research, and interpretation of the latest achievements in adapting Marxism to the Chinese context and the needs of the times.The number of scientific research projects host by school teachers at or above the provincial and ministerial level, as well as the number of publications in core journals, are among the top throughout the state's School of Marxism Studies. There are 13 academic platforms based on the construction of the school, including 6 platforms at the provincial and ministerial level or above, such as the Academy of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, Renmin University of China and Beijing Advanced Innovation Center for Teaching and Research on the Courses of Ideological and Political Theory.

The school bears in mind its original mission of “cultivating talents for the Party and the country”, adheres to the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education, and has trained nearly 10000 graduates of all levels, with more than 500 students currently enrolled. The school continuously deepens the reform of talent cultivation and has constructed an undergraduate, master’s, and PhD integrated training system for Marxist Theory discipline that is oriented at cultivating reserve talents urgently needed by the country. The training system has won the first prize of the 2022 National Teaching Achievement Award for Higher Education, and multiple teachers have been awarded in various national teaching competitions. The school undertakes the teaching of ideological and political theory courses for all undergraduate, master, and PhD students, creating “high-grade, precision and advanced” “golden ideological and political courses”-- the construction of the resource platform of ideological and political theory course won the first prize of 2022 National Teaching Achievement for Higher Education, and the exploration and practice of the “one body, two wings” teaching mode for undergraduate ideological and political theory courses won the second prize of 2018 National Teaching Achievements.

In recent years, the school has achieved fruitful results in various aspects of its work. In 2016, the school was selected as one of the first national key schools of Marxism; in 2017, the first-level discipline of the Theory of Marxism was chosen as a key discipline for the national “Double First-Class” construction, and was rated “A+” in the recent two rounds of discipline evaluations; in 2018, the school was awarded the national “Worker Pioneer” title; in 2019, the school was awarded the title of National Advanced Collective in the Education System, and Benchmark Department for Party Building Demonstration and Quality Creation in Universities in the New Era; in 2020, the college was awarded honorary titles of Beijing Advanced Collective in Fighting COVID-19, Beijing Advanced Party Organization in Universities, etc.
